Yoga
The meaning of “Yoga” is union – the bringing together of the
mind, body and soul. It is the bringing together of the
various polarities within, in order to reach a state of
balance and transcend our limited vision. Basing its insights,
and discoveries on the observation of nature, yoga imparts a
certain quality to life . The
C.N.M.S
School
has included yoga as a part of its curriculum in a
full-fledged manner. Here the children are not only taught
asanas, pranayamas, Kriyas and meditation in Yoga, but also
the simple basic things such as how to sit quietly, how to
breathe correctly or how to relax.
These different aspects of yoga – go a long way in helping
the child to grow since this not only develops his
personality, but helps him or her for an overall growth and
overcome depression. It improves his/her flexibility – and
therefore less prone to fractures, dislocations of the joints
of the body. It improves concentration. The child learn
healthy habits, living and eating. If these things are learnt
in their childhood he does not have to learn these lessons in
a hard way. As the saying goes “As you sow so shall you reap”
Today is the computer age – a fast living world – a jet age.
The children are facing traumas – tension in their studies and
personal life. They are finding it difficult to cope with
stress. They are imitating the west by the influence of media
and therefore developing unhealthy habits of eating and
living. They are falling into the trap of drugs, murder, rape
etc,. Through meditation we can acheve an experience of
“One-ness” that destroys emotions such as jealousy, anger,
fear and hatred at their roots.
Martial Arts
Japanese Martial Art Society Of India Headed by Mehul Vora

intensive course for Street Self Defense. Students will also
be participating in National and International Tournaments.
Field Trips
In order to acquire first hand experience of people and
places and absorb knowledge, outdoor activities are organized
to enable the child to blossom in a more open and interactive
environment. Rain walks and nature trails at the
Maharashtra
Nature
Park
and the
Sanjay
Gandhi
National Park
and educational trips to the Nehru
science
Center,
the Indian Meteorological dept, and some interesting factory
sites have done just that. Some more such visits include those
to parks, beaches, museums, theatres and places of national
and historic importance. Visits to Pawan Hans where they
learnt about helicopters and the Fire Station, where they were
acquainted with the working of the fire Brigade, also helped
to stimulate their imagination. Exhibitions are held on
Project work. One such exhibition on Mumbai was inaugurated by
the Honourable Shri Kiran Shantaram, the Sheriff of Mumbai.

child to have. The imparting and imbibing of values permeates
through all our activities, both academics and non- academic.

responsibility rests on our shoulders, not just as teachers,
but also as guides and guardians. Your child is always brought
up amidst noble values and ideals, thus making CNMS Value
Education a real value-addition.

child’s life at CNMS. Students get trained by expert coaches,
renowned in their field. A new swimming pool allows students
to take up water sports – a rarity in this island city.

Dance
In
C.N.M
School
is the only school which has given ‘dance’ the status of a
‘regular subject’. Most schools have it only as an activity or
an optional hobby.
Dance is generally perceived, as a form to be performed only
girls. But here since both boy and girls are taught the art.
It helps to develop a keen sense of rhythm and a ear for
melody. It also enriches our knowledge about our culture.
During the regular dance period, children are taught various
folk dances, gradual movements co-relating to nature(clouds,
wind water, etc,.) introduction to the 7 classical dances of
India, folk dances relating to the various festivals in the
order that they arrive during the year.
In the hobby section, there is ‘BharatNatyam and ‘Kathak’
which are taught in detail. A systematic syllabus is followed.
In both the dance period and the Bharat Natyam and
Kathak(hobby period )a detailed theory of the art is
explained.
Dance as a whole, encourages the student to shed his/her fears
and express through body language, since that is what dance is
all about. Developing grace, flexibility, rhythm, a love for
Indian art and teaching students to appreciate dance as a form
for all, irrespective of age or sex. The main aim of having
introducing ‘dance’ as a subject in C.N.M

To sum it up – An art is believed to be a disciplined factor
in one’s life and dance is intended to do so.
